What to Expect
Homestays in Coorg usually involve either sharing a home with the resident family or perhaps a stay in an independent home in one of the coffee plantations or in the quite towns. Homestays in Coorg are becoming increasingly popular and will vary in terms of standard of accommodation and facilities, which will naturally place a bearing on the cost.
Some accommodation will be quite basic offering a bed and meals, but most hosts ensure the houses remain clean and welcoming. Most homestays will have more than adequate facilities though such as bathrooms, kitchen and living areas with books and indoor games available for guests to enjoy.
Visitors will experience the delights of authentic home cooking in their Coorg homestay, with the option of vegetarian food such as bamboo shoot curry or pickle or non vegetarian meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is usually provided and in some places the hosts will allow their guests in to the kitchen to watch or even help prepare the meal.
As they have vast knowledge of the local area and India in general, the hosts are very happy to act as guides and take their guests to local attractions. People staying at estate homestays may be provided with tours of the plantations, of which there are many including coffee and cardamom.
Visitors may also be taken on walking excursions through the wonderful lush forests or taken to see any of the tourist attractions in Coorg such as the Nagarhol National Park or Abbey Falls. Some may also be lucky enough to experience one of the festivals held in Coorg or a local wedding, whilst activities may include fishing or rafting.
