Coorg has many fascinating and picturesque places to visit. As a mountainous district the town offers spectacular views, wonderful scenery and exotic aromas.

There are several tourist attractions giving visitors a colourful insight in to the history of one of southern India’s finest resorts. Coorg’s capital Madikeri is the home of Raja’s Seat, which is now set amongst beautiful gardens and is where the kings sat and watched the sunset.

Coorg is susceptible to heavy downpours during the monsoon season, but this is a great time to visit waterfalls such as Abbi Falls. Approximately 44 kilometres from Madikeri there is a small pond at Talacauvery, which is a place of natural beauty and also a pilgrimage centre.

The area also boasts someu unique historical architecture such as the Omkareshwara Temple built in the Mumammadan style with a center dome and four corners with turrets. Mercara fort stands upon elevated ground and features a palace and two life sized mortar elephants by the entrance.

The royal tombs, or Gaddige as they are also known, provide a wonderful view of the whole town. The tomb of Lingarajendra was built here in 1820, and like the Omkareshwara Temple these monuments feature center domes and turrets.

About 28 kilometres from Madikeri is Nisargadhama, which has elephant rides, boating, a deer park, children’s park and an orchidarium on this 64 acre island. Anglers may like to visit Valnur fishing camp near Kushalanagar on the banks of the Cauvery River.
